Post your progress for the day 6/4/20

  1. I worked on transferring Chapters 3 and 4 from the Programming FPGAs book into Vivado block design and working modules. I had a little bit of trouble translating some of the blocks shown in the book to Vivado blocks but after a lot of experimentation I found that the blocks are in fact in the IP "catalog" when clicking "Add IP". I will continue following the book and eventually will put together some tutorials on how I made these projects. Also reviewed some of the lessons that have been modified by others in this group to see if they are good for finalization.

  2. Today I started out going over the lessons again, trying to commit them to memory, as well as I spent some time searching the internet for different lessons or tutorials for possible labs/projects and starting to look at any Verilog for beginners resources I could find. I found this amazing website where someone shared how they made their board produce Morse Code via the use of one switch. I took some time and actually completed this and tested to see if it worked, which it did. It was fairly easy because all of the resources were readily available but I could definitely try to turn it into a lesson and make it more in depth than the website shows. I also spent some time going through the email from Professor White and searching around for different resources online.

  3. Today I spent my time becoming more familiar with the Basys board and FPGA in general by using the videos that Sam posted on a previous blog post. While I managed to go through the lessons fairly easily with only minor troubles, I'm still struggling to understand what the board is doing sometimes, since I have no experience with anything like this. I'm trying to become more familiar with everything at a decent rate so I can hopefully get more up to speed with everyone else, and I've been looking through some resources to help me, and even looking for other activities to do with the Basys board.

  4. I forgot to post this yesterday. Yesterday I worked on creating the tutorial video for lesson 1. I have several trials but I need to re-do it because once I watched it I realized I skipped some important things. I also searched for sources for my project idea of creating a video game.

  5. For June 4th, I worked on making a video of Lesson 2, it can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xus399m3mwc&feature=youtu.be. I noticed I speak really slowly so its really long, but I think it's pretty detailed. Definitely would love Prof White or anyone else to review it. Took a pretty long time to make. I also posted some potential projects to the blog, and added a verilog video as a resource.

  6. I started looking for ideas for a project that I could do. I spent sometimes reading the book "FPGAs for dummies". I also looked through the slides for lesson 3 to see if there was anything needed to be modified before I start making a tutorial video for this lesson.
